We all saw the newspaper’s bizarre report that Floyd Mayweather will return to fight one last time for his 50th fight against UFC featherweight champ Conor McGregor.
The Sun’s James Beal and Matt Heath-Smith told us all that Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather were negotiating for months and, further more, have agreed to fight each other, but still need to settle the money side of things.
They reported that Mayweather Jr. will receive 100 million dollars and McGregor would get 7 million dollars.
With Conor McGregor having his very public run ins with the UFC and Floyd Mayweather constantly hinting at a comeback, many could see this match up becoming a reality.
UFC President Dana White waisted no time in saying the reports are nonsense: “It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story,” Dana White told Yahoo Sports. “And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.”
With Dana White’s input, many thought that this story will be just that, a story.. But then enter Floyd Mayweather Snr..
Mayweather’s father was giving an interview when he said that his son is linked to a comeback fight against some “MMA Fighter” in a brand new video.
“He had told me the other day that he’s going to take another fight,” Mayweather Sr. said about his Floyd. “He told me it’s [against] some kind of MMA fighter.”
When Mayweather Snr. was asked about Conor McGregor, he had this to say: “We’d beat the hell out of that man. My son can whoop him. He’s dead.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought they would do,” Mayweather Sr. was talking about the fight being under boxing rules. “That’s what everyone has been saying. I really don’t know exactly when, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to come around pretty soon. Won’t be that long.”
Here is Floyd Mayweather Snr in the interview:
