So, we have all seen the pro debut of Nigel Benn’s son, Conor Nigel Benn. It’s safe to say that we should expect a similar tempo to his fights and fighting style as we were used to seeing with his father.
Conor, 19, faced Ivailo Boyanov on Saturday night in his first professional fight, stopping the Bulgarian in the very first round with a stunning body shot. Conor came out swinging and had that ‘heatseeking missile’ style his father was famous for.
Nigel Benn on his pro debut, back in 1987 faced Graeme Ahmed, Benn took two rounds to get the stoppage. Ahmed said, “Benn was very strong and I remember I just couldn’t keep the guy off me. He was so quick.”
It’s going to be interesting watching the young Benn on his path to success. It was very interesting to see how Conor featured on such a big night of boxing for his first fight. Not just that, he fought after fighters like Selby and Macklin. That just goes to show that Matchroom and Eddie Hearn have got great plans for building this fighter.
