Liam Smith is hoping for a clash with Canelo Alvarez after defending his WBO light middleweight title against Predrag Radosevic
This fight is very possible with Canelo wanting to move down to light middleweight.
Liam said: “I’d love to go to America. I’d go there confident. A lot was made of Amir, could he go up size wise?
“There’s no question about that with me. I’m a big 154. A lot is made of Canelo coming in the ring at 180.
“I’ve said to people, if I wanted, I could get in the ring at 180. But I choose not to. On the night, there would not be a big difference between us size wise. It’s a fight I’d love.
“I was too big for Amir when I sparred with him for that fight. I kind of knew it was going to happen. It was always a case of could Amir go to points?
“If Amir could get to points, he might do well. But he didn’t make it because he was too small. Amir is a 147 fighter. You’d have to chop my leg off to make me a 147 fighter.”
Smith would also be interested in a clash with Miguel Cotto, the Puerto Rican fighter is still a massive name in the sport.
Joe Gallagher, Smith trainer said: “Cotto is No 1 challenger in the division, that would be a great fight. Cotto would be a great scalp for Liam.”
“Then go on to Canelo but beggars can’t be choosers at that level.
“Cotto, Canelo, you’re in the big league then. We have 13 world champions and Liam is in the top three or four.”
