I think Golovkin would be more interested in moving up in weight rather than down, like any boxer, putting on weight would be easier and more comfortable than losing it. But, GGG has made it clear, if the deal was a good one, he would be prepared to drop weight for the right opponent.
It would turn some heads if this fight was ever to be made. Firstly as it would be a great match up, but secondly as Canelo has asked Golovkin to drop weight to face him at 155lbs, considering Golovkin didn’t take that fight but yet took a Floyd fight at 154lbs, I’m sure a lot of Canelo fans will be saying GGG avoided their man.
There is no denying that a Mayweather vs Golovkin fight would create a spectacular buzz and massive sales, but would it be as big as the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight? I’m not too sure.
