Pound for pound undefeated boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather (49-0-0-26KO’s) told fighthype.com that if ever he was tempted to return to the boxing ring it would only ever be against Gennady Golovkin or Manny Pacquiao.
He also went on to say how GGG would be “easy work.” Floyd said: “GGG is straight up and down, he’s special effects, that’s easy work.”
When Gennady Golovkin has been asked in the past if he could get down to 154lbs he has said it wouldn’t be a problem, he’s made weight at 158lbs so it’s just 4lbs.
Interestingly, when Mayweather Jr. fought Canelo Alvarez, the weight was set at 152lbs. Canelo weighed on the night of the fight around 160-165lbs. I’m sure GGG would be eating and rehydrating like a king at his own banquet to put on as much weight as possible to get near the weight that he has been the most effective at.
Mayweather is currently enjoying his retirement but reportedly is always keeping in shape, training and eating well. We have seen Floyd vanish from the sport before for over 20 months and come back with a fantastic performance against Juan Manuel Márquez back in September of 2009. So we know he keeps in shape away from boxing.
For Mayweather to face GGG, a fighter many are calling one of the P4P best at the moment, there is no way it’ll be at the middleweight limit of 160lbs. Mayweather Has only fought twice at 154lbs. He did do very well in both of them fights and didn’t seem to struggle but for a guy that’s more of a natural welterweight (147lbs) to make middleweight (160lbs) is incredibly unlikely. He even said so himself.
