George Foreman vs. Ken Norton, was billed as “The Caracas Caper”, it took place on March 26, 1974 for the WBA, WBC and The Ring heavyweight championships.
George Foreman was seen as an unstoppable force. A man that had great power and determination.
The fight lasted less than two rounds with Foreman getting his third knockout victory in a row to retain the heavyweight titles.
The two fighters fought an even first round, but Foreman gained an upperhand in the second round sending Norton to the canvas three times which proved to much.
This was an impressive win for Big George, but not as impressive as the interview with Muhammad Ali at the end of the fight.
Ali was stopped and asked what he thought of the fight, then Ali gave an amazing prediction 7 months before he was to face George Foreman, he said, “George Foreman is too slow, he hit Ken Norton like he do all his opponents, caught him early.”
“If a man can stay out the way for five rounds, stick him, move, stay out of range, be in good shape, he will retire George Foreman.”
“This man depends on getting his man in the first one or two rounds if he don’t do that he’s frustrated. Stick him with left jabs and right crosses, tie him up and box him and he will retire.”
