David Haye has come forward in an interview today and said he would knock Anthony Joshua out in one round should they meet in the boxing ring.
Haye was on BBC’s 1Xtra today when he gave the interview. Haye commented on his absence from the ring and his comeback he said: “I had been out the ring for three and a half years, people were unsure why I was coming back, unsure if I’d be the force I once was.”
“New kids on the block, young kids haven’t seen me before, saying this guy, some old guy, no-no-no, I’m better than I’ve ever been right now.”
On the subject of could Haye face Joshua and could he beat him, Haye added, “I think he [Joshua] is the real deal, he’s had 15 fights, 15 knockouts, I’ve been supporting him from the start. I’d love to get in the ring and see just how good he is.”
When Haye was asked how would you prepare for that fight Haye said, “I’d have to get some big sparring partners in as he’s an absolute monster, a unit, he’s young, he’s 26 years old, I’m 35, I’m the old guy, the old experienced veteran. I’d love the opportunity to get in there and show him a couple of things.”
Haye went on to say if Joshua can beat Charles Martin in April, “how big would that fight be then if we faced each other, for a title.”
“I used to be the guy with the heavyweight title, now I don’t, I’ve been out the ring for three and a half years and this is the new breed, is the old breed as good as the new breed?”
