Chris Eubanks Jr and Sr were on Good Morning Britain today giving their response to the Nock Blackwell interview from yesterday’s show.
Yesterday Nick Blackwell expressed his disappointment and disgust at how the Eubanks handled the aftermath of his injury from their fight two months ago.
Blackwell said, “I haven’t any hard feelings about the fight because you’re in there to win and try and hurt someone, it’s just the stuff he has done after. It’s inhuman, it’s disgusting. They were trying to make themselves look like the good guys when they are the opposite,” Blackwell told The Sun
“My family and friends were begging them not to talk, but they ignored it. I’ve only just been shown the press conference and I know exactly what happened. It isn’t human what they’ve done. They were grabbing as much attention as they could. I was still in a coma but they went ahead and did it. That’s the Eubanks, isn’t it? They just want attention, no matter if it’s a bad or a good thing.”
“If I could have one more knockout shot, I’d love to land it on the jaw of Chris Eubank [Sr.].”
Chris Eunbank Jr waisted no time in responding to these comments made by Blackwell: “People and media demanded that we speak to them. If we had just said ‘No comment’ it would have come off as cold.”
Nick Blackwell spoke about the incident where Eubank Sr. claimed he was protecting Blackwell by giving his son, Chris instructions to go to the body and not the head: “Anyone in boxing knows it’s more of a tactical thing, he couldn’t stop me to the head so he wanted to him in the body to try and get rid of me. Because in boxing you’re in there to try and rid of guys.”
On today’s show Chris Eubank Jr made an amazing gesture of good will, wanting to give Nick Blackwell his British title belt.
Eubank Jr said, “My British title belt, I felt he held himself amazingly. His career’s over now and as a gesture I was going to go to the hospital present him with my belt,” he said to hosts Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan.
“He is a true warrior regardless of what’s been said. He can now live a normal life,” the champion added.”
“I was shocked when I first heard the things he had been saying because we had a little talk on Twitter and he said everything was okay and there was no hard feelings. The truth is, I ended the guy’s career, I’ve stopped him from making a living,” said Chris.
“Even yesterday I found out he was in an ambulance and nearly died and had to be resuscitated on the way to the hospital. Was it intentional? Did I want this to happen? Of course not.”
“I can understand where this anger and dislike for me can come from.”
