George Foreman was in Kinshasa, Zaire to defend his heavyweight championship against Muhammad Ali, it took 8 rounds till the fight was over. Many felt the legend of the big strong unbeaten power house Foreman was over too.
Foreman had to effectively start over again as a boxer as this fight with Muhammad Ali was seen as the most famous victory in boxing.
George Foreman vanished from the boxing scene. Then he resurfaced one night to take part in a boxing exhibition that was more like something that was more like WWE Royal Rumble than boxing. On April 26, 1975, in Toronto.
Big George was scheduled to face 5 men in one night and hopefully notch 5 knockouts to his already impressive knockout record. Not all went to plan as Foreman struggled against a few of the guys.
Ring side and helping with Howard Cosell with the commentary was Foreman’s rival, Muhammad Ali. Ali spent the entire night mocking big George as much as he could.
“The thing is a carnival and it’s not pleasant to see,” said Howard Cosell.
“This is the weirdest thing you will ever see,” said Cosell.
