8) Davey Moore (18-5-0 14KO)
Davey Moore, a much loved middleweight fighter who faced the likes of Robert Duran. Moore died in June of 1988 in a tragic accident.
Moore, one morning was walking away from his car, unaware that it wasn’t left in a stationary position. The four wheel drive vehicle began to roll down the hill towards the middleweight boxer.
Moore, spotting the moving vehicle at the last moment tried desperately to stop the car rolling. His attempts carried no reward though, as he was dragged under the car and was pinned there.
Emergency crews later said he died due to asphyxiation induced by a compressed chest.
7) Masao Ohba (35-2-1 16KO)
Masao Ohba, a Japanese fighter, died on January 25 1973. Just three weeks after defending his WBA world flyweight title. He was diving his Corvette on an expressway in Tokyo when he hit a truck coming the other way. Masao was just 23 years old.
After Masao died, he was given a nickname, ‘The Eternal Champion,’ as he was the WBA champion and still undefeated in championship bouts.
6) Young Stribling (224-13-14 129KO)
Mr Stribling had 251 fights, but on October 3rd 1933 he had one fight he couldn’t win, the fight for his life.
Traveling 35 miles per hour on a motorcycle, he was on his way to the hospital to visit his wife and their newly born baby. Strib waved to a friend passing by in a car when he failed to notice another car behind his friends vehicle.
Strib tried to avoid the vehicle but it was too late. He struck the the car, almost completely ripping off his left foot. The collision sent Strib off his bike and crashing to the payment. He fractured his pelvis.
He was rushed to hospital where his foot was amputated. Strib was fighting for his life. His pulse was racing and his temperature hit 107 degrees. He died a couple of days later.
